CardValet Usage Controls

CardValet can manage and track specific types of debit and credit card transactions – or quickly detect unauthorized or fraudulent activity. You can customize your experience by choosing from a variety of options.

Card On/Off Setting

  • When the card is "on," transactions are allowed in accordance with their usage control settings.

  • When the card is "off," no purchases or withdrawals are approved until the card is subsequently turned back "on." This control can be used to control spending, disable a lost or stolen card, or prevent fraudulent activity in the case of a data breach.

Card Controls

  • Spending limits can be established to allow transactions up to a certain dollar value and decline transactions when amounts exceed defined thresholds.

  • Transactions can be controlled and monitored for specific merchant categories such as gas stations, department stores, restaurants entertainment, travel, and groceries.

Location-Based Controls

  • The My Location control can restrict transactions to merchants located within a certain range of a cardholder's location (using the phone's GPS); transactions requested outside of the specified range can be declined.

  • The My Region control uses city, state, country or zip code on an expandable interactive map; transactions requested by merchants outside of a specific region can be declined.

Alerts

  • Alerts can be set up to keep users informed of specific types of debit and credit card transactions. CardValet can send an alert when a card is used or when a card transaction has been attempted but is declined – and additional customizable alert options are available. The alert is sent in real time, immediately after the transaction has taken place or has been declined.

Additional Capabilities
CardValet also lets you conduct card-related mobile transactions wherever you are, any time of the day. Supported transactions include:

  • Real-time balance inquiries

  • Locating ATMs

SPC FRAUD TEXT ALERTS

As a member of SPC Credit Union, your financial security is our top priority! SPC continually monitors our members’ cards for fraudulent activity. We are excited to bring you another level of security by introducing Fraud Text Alerts for our Debit and Credit Cards! If our fraud monitoring service detects a suspicious transaction on your account, we will alert you via SMS/text message of the transaction.

How do I enroll in fraud alerts?

If you have provided SPC CU with a mobile phone number, you are automatically enrolled and will begin receiving fraud alerts by text message. Text messages will be sent from the SPC Fraud Centerbetween the hours of 8 am and 9 pm EST.

Important: Fraud Text Alerts are available for debit and credit card transactions.

What happens if there is a suspicious transaction on my card?

When our real-time fraud monitoring service detects a suspicious transaction on your SPC debit or credit card we may block your card immediately for your protection. If you confirm that the transaction is legitimate, your card may be available for immediate use.

How will I be alerted of a suspicious transaction on my card?

Fraud text alerts are delivered by SMS/text message. If you do not respond to the text message within fifteen (15) minutes, you will receive a call to the phone number we have on file.

Should I respond to a fraud alert?

Yes.For your account security, it is important to respond to fraud alerts. This allows us to take immediate action to protect your account (if the charge was indeed fraudulent) or allow your account to be available for future transactions (if the transaction was authorized). If you don’t respond to any of the calls or text messages, it may disrupt your ability to make purchases with your debit or credit card.

Will I be charged for fraud alert texts?

No. SPC’s card processor supports Free-to-End User two-way text messages alerts, which allows you to receive and reply to without incurring charges from your wireless carrier.

What do the SMS fraud text message look like?

Sample SMS Text Messages:

SMS Alert FreeMSG:

FreeMSG SPC Credit Union Fraud Center 8772538964 $125.46 on card 1234 at Macy’s. If valid, reply YES, fraud NO. To Opt Out, STOP.

SMS Response to YES FreeMSG:

FreeMSG SPC Credit Union Fraud Center 8772538964 Thank you for confirming this activity. You may continue to use your card. To Opt Out reply STOP.

SMS Response to NO FreeMSG:

FreeMSG SPC Credit Union Fraud Center 8772538964 Your response has placed a block on the card. Call us immediately at 8772538962, avail 24/7. To Opt Out reply STOP.

Can I opt out of receiving fraud alert messages by text?

Yes. If you receive a fraud alert by text, please first confirm if the transaction was authorized. Next, simply respond “STOP” to the text message.

By opting out, you will continue to receive fraud alerts by phone. However, text message fraud alerts are a great way to receive notification in real-time when there is a suspicious transaction on your card. This allows you to take immediate action to help protect your account.

Important Notice: Fraud alerts sent via SMS/text may not be delivered to you if yourphone is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is notavailable at a particular time. Even within coverage, factors beyond the control of yourwireless carrier may interfere with message delivery for which they are not responsible.

Fraud alert important steps to take:

1. Update your contact information with SPC Credit Union (if necessary). Have you moved recently or changed your mobile phone number? Please let us know. We need your updated contact information so you can receive important alerts about your accounts.

2. If you are concerned your card has been compromised but have not received a fraud alert, please call the SPC Credit Union Fraud Center at 877.253.8962 or stop by your nearest branch.

3. To further prevent unauthorized use of your SPC debit or credit card, consider SPC Card Valet. Through controls, alerts, and the ability to turn your card(s) on/off, you can respond quickly and effectively to potential fraud. Visit SPC Online Access for more information.

Reminder: SPC Credit Union will NEVER send you a message asking for your personal or account information. If you receive a message asking for this type of information, contact SPC immediately and do not respond to the message.
